Where does your Beer come from?
Environmental reports of corporations substantially vary, if these exist in the first place. Especially when it comes to breweries I discovered big differences between European breweries and North American breweries.
In Europe the reports are detailed on energy consumption and about how much of this energy is recovered in processes. In North America the reports only state the percentage of renewable energy, hardly the consumption and the energy saving potential with smart solutions.
That #greenroofs or #solargreenroofs are not mentioned in North American reports makes sense because there is none.
That a German Brewery doesn’t mention their green roofs – or only in one sentence – is surprising. Especially when the greenery is covering over 650,000 square feet or 85% of their roofs.
Maybe because green roofs are “normal” in German construction or because the investment of 0.01 Euro cent per Liter beer of an annual production into a green roof is much lower than the multimillions of Euros that go into energy recovering systems, water recycling, own methane power plant or other real cool and sustainable technologies.
I feel better when I drink a beer that comes from a facility with a green roof and sadly this excludes NA breweries.
Drink responsibly and build responsibly.
